50 year old Pan Am DC-8 decals success!!

At DC-8Models.com we are preparing this 1/50 Pan Am DC-8 for a customer. After two solid days of work we were able to apply these original, 50+ year old Douglas Factory Pan Am decals to the model.

It was like brain surgery. We had applied multiple coats of decal repair solution prior to application. But the apply process was still by no means easy. The decals were still hard to apply with numerous shattering points which required post application touch ups.

We did not use the DFM cockpit decals as they are not very accurate so we used our own replacement decals.

Yes .. It is nice to show the progress as these models move through the assembly stages. Here is a photo of the model marked for clear coat, which was taken yesterday.
